Conquer Your Mind
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7
Many times, the battle begins between our two ears and it’s our own thoughts or imaginations. These thoughts will often begin with fear, unworthiness, shame, self-pity, anger and bad attitudes. These become harassing thoughts to us that we aren’t enough, then it makes us second guess ourselves. Then begins a downward spiral of defeat, where we feel invalidated by our own thoughts and if we allow those thoughts to linger too long they become our beliefs.
A few years ago, my son Brock was believing some wrong thoughts about his abilities in school, feeling very defeated and down about himself. He had created this narrative in his mind that was not true, but he was starting to believe it. At the time Brock was an incredible wrestler and winning a lot of tournaments and even receiving a state title. He has worked hard, was disciplined. The hard work and the mental discipline paid off as he won the gold. He stood on the winner’s platform to receive the medal and awarded the medal to show he won. I asked him, would you allow your opponent to go around saying that he won the match and he was the gold medal winner? What if he began taunting you saying the he really was the winner? How long would you stand for that foolishness? Not too long, you probably laugh and walk away from him because you just clearly won in front of a large crowd and you possessed the proof, not him. Brock could turn to his opponent with confidence and authority and say, “No, I won. I beat you, I have the gold medal to prove it and no one, especially you can tell me something different. I possess the medal and you don’t so please shut your mouth”, as he proceeds to walk away.
This is the same confidence and authority that we need to walk in as children of God. The battle has already been won, because Jesus wrestled the match for me, won the gold and He is victorious over our enemy. So, shut your mouth enemy, I won, and I hold the prize and you don’t, because I am a child of God.
A great quote I read was, “You’d never invite a thief into your house. So why would you allow thoughts that steal joy and make themselves at home in your mind?” “The thief does not come except to steal, to kill and to destroy” John 10:10
Be blessed today and walk in your authority and confidence of whose you are!
